Those Who Can Restrain Their Senses

by My Self : The Muse

From Landscapes of Wonder, by Bhikkhu Nyanasobhano:

Therefore those who can restrain their senses, who can gracefully adapt to earth tones, will fare much better than those who hunger again and again for delicious sensation.  Where there is craving or aversion, there will always be suffering, for the mind that pulls or pushes cannot come to balance.  Here in this unreliable universe, we can neither make the beloved stay nor the undesired disappear, so we will be thwarted wherever we turn as long as we turn with the cycle of liking and disliking.
